Hey San Francisco tumblrs!  I wanted to invite any interested parties to check out the Cali Classics book club. I’ve been going for a couple years now and its morphed several different ways.  We’re opening ourselves up for more participants and I thought that someone out there in the digital world might be interested in participating in reading and then discussion over the classics.

More about Cali Classics:

This group is for those who wish to continue the enrichment of their minds through reading some of the more classic novels/epics/poems of Western Culture. We will meet once a month to discuss interpretational readings, eat, drink and enjoy each others company. Other events are always welcome, as this is meant to be a social forum as well as an avenue to challenge our minds.

Club guidelines are as follows:
Meeting frequency: The 3rd Thursday of each month
Book Selection: Our current selection will be determined 2 months in advance. A pool of 5 potential selections will be maintained at all times, to be developed by group moderators. Each of our selections will be determined by ballot: votes will be cast only by members in attendance during regular club sessions. The purpose of this is not to promote exclusion but rather to encourage attendance.

The next themed series is “death and dying” given our move into the more sombre fall months.

  • October selection is Dicken’s A Tale of Two Cities
  • Novemeber selection is Camus’ The Plague
  • December selection is Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 7:00pm. There’s also a facebook group, so if you’d like to join, let me know and we’ll get you involved!
